I read a book review about a new book called The Vatican Secret Archives. Is this a teaser by the Vatican to whet our appetites for juicy hidden secrets or has the archival dept. decided that certain information is not problematic anymore? As mentioned in the review, all material post 1939 was off limits, perhaps indicating the latter. I have always intrigued by secret and hidden histories. There is always a dark side to events. As the famous quote goes, “History is written by the victors,” meaning the victors would not be so quick to point out the flawed nature of the event. As time marches on, however, the truth is not as challenging and can thus be revealed.
